Am I Doing Enough? A Parent’s Reflection in Today’s World

Some evenings, I watch my child glued to a screen, skipping a meal, or retreating into silence—and I quietly wonder:

Am I getting this right?

We’re parenting in a world that looks nothing like the one we grew up in.
Back then, there were joint families, outdoor games, and shared prayers.
Now, it’s nuclear setups, virtual friends, and microwave dinners.

The Shift Is Real

  • From joint to nuclear families, parenting has become more personal—but often more isolating.

  • Working or stay-at-home, guilt seems to come with every choice.

  • Meals aren’t conversations anymore; they’re quick breaks between calls and classes.

  • Playgrounds are replaced by screens, and free time often means digital time.

  • Spirituality feels distant, unless we consciously talk about gratitude, values, and meaning.

  • Kids are connected online, yet many feel emotionally alone.

What We’re Learning

We can’t recreate the past—but we can build something meaningful now:

  • Make time for meals without phones.

  • Encourage movement, even if it’s dancing in the living room.

  • Talk about emotions without judgment.

  • Set screen rules with our kids, not just for them.

  • Focus on effort, not just marks.

Are We Doing Enough?

We won’t always get it right.
But if we keep showing up—with love, presence, and humility—then yes, we are doing enough.

Let’s raise children who are grounded, kind, and emotionally strong—by being the same ourselves.
